Store Monitoring

Monitoring a store means watching more than whether it loads.

A store can return a perfect 200 OK while the checkout is broken, the bestseller is priced at $0, and the product images stopped rendering three days ago. Uptime is one of six things worth watching, and it is the one least likely to go wrong. This is what continuous monitoring covers for a Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce or Wix store, how often each check needs to run, and which failures cost money the fastest.

The six things worth watching

Store owners usually arrive at monitoring after an incident — a quiet Tuesday that turned out to be a broken payment gateway, or a bulk price edit that ran on the wrong collection. The list below is ordered by how much revenue each failure costs per hour it goes unnoticed, not by how easy it is to check.

  • Orders — whether the store is still selling. A checkout that fails silently produces no error page and no support ticket until someone emails you.
  • Prices — whether every product is priced the way you set it. A bulk edit, a CSV import, or a repricing app can change hundreds of variants in one action.
  • Availability — whether the store answers, on the right domain, with a valid certificate. Includes the two dates nobody diarises: SSL expiry and domain registration expiry.
  • Stock — whether the things people are trying to buy still exist. A sold-out bestseller is an ad budget burning against a dead landing page.
  • Content and SEO — titles, descriptions, canonicals, structured data, broken links and missing images. Slow to hurt, slow to recover.
  • Speed — how the store performs on a phone on mobile data, which is not how it performs on your laptop.

How often each check needs to run

Detection latency is the only number that matters. A check that runs once a day has an average detection delay of twelve hours; a check that runs every five minutes has an average delay of two and a half. The right cadence is the one where the cost of the delay is smaller than the cost of the check.

These are the intervals Cassian™ uses. They differ by plan because the underlying cost differs — an HTTP request is cheap, a full crawl with content analysis is not.

Detection is only half of it — the alert has to reach you

A monitoring tool that emails a dashboard you check on Mondays has not solved the problem. Alerts have to arrive where you already are, and they have to be specific enough to act on without opening anything.

Cassian™ sends to email on every plan. Telegram and webhooks — which auto-detect Slack and Discord URLs and format natively for each — are on Protector and above. Every channel has its own minimum severity, so the 3am pager can be reserved for the things that are actually worth 3am.

What to set up first

If you are starting from nothing, this is the order that catches the most revenue per hour of setup.

  1. Connect the store, so order and catalog data is available. Read-only is enough — no theme edits, no code changes.
  2. Turn on zero-order alerting. It is the single highest-value check and it runs on the free plan.
  3. Set your alert channel and its severity floor, so critical alerts reach a phone and everything else reaches an inbox.
  4. Add uptime and certificate monitoring before your next high-traffic day, not during it.
  5. Run a full scan and fix the critical findings once. After that, monitoring only has to tell you what changed.

What Cassian™ actually does

Specific checks, with the plan they run on.

Cassian™ reads your platform’s order count on a schedule, builds a weighted historical baseline, and raises a critical alert when a period that should have orders has none.

Every plan, including the free Inspector tier. Analysis runs every 3 hours on Inspector, hourly on Guardian and above.

Cassian™ snapshots your full catalog daily and compares every variant against yesterday. A $0 price or an inverted sale price is classified critical; twenty or more changes in one run are grouped and flagged as a bulk edit.

Every plan with a connected store. Scheduled daily on Protector and above; scan-triggered below that.

Cassian™ sends an HTTP health check every 5 minutes, waits 30 seconds and retries before alerting, and counts down SSL certificate and domain registration expiry daily.

Protector and above. Every minute on Prime and Enterprise. Not included on Inspector or Analyst.

Every scan runs 33 deterministic checks over your pages — meta titles and descriptions, heading structure, alt text, canonicals, Open Graph, robots directives and product schema completeness — emitting 35 distinct issue codes.

Every plan. Page counts scale by tier, from 10 pages on Inspector upwards.

Cassian™ validates internal and external links and product images, skipping bot-hostile domains so a LinkedIn 999 never becomes a false alarm.

Every plan. 1 page weekly on Inspector, up to 500 pages daily on Prime.

Cassian™ runs Google’s PageSpeed Insights against your pages daily and tracks Core Web Vitals — LCP, CLS and INP — separately for mobile and desktop.

Every plan, including free.

FAQ

Common questions

How do I monitor my Shopify store?
Cover six things, in this order: whether orders are still arriving, whether prices are correct, whether the store responds on the right domain with a valid certificate, whether stock exists for what you are advertising, whether content and SEO signals are intact, and how fast pages load on mobile. Each needs a different cadence — order flow hourly, prices daily, availability every few minutes, content weekly. Cassian™ runs all six from one connection and sends the alerts to email, Telegram, Slack or Discord. The free plan covers zero-order alerts, page speed, scans and link checks; uptime checks start on Protector.
Isn’t Shopify already monitoring my store?
Shopify monitors Shopify. Its status page tells you whether the platform is healthy, not whether your store is. A theme update that breaks add-to-cart, an app that fails on the cart page, an expired certificate on your custom domain, a payment gateway that stopped authorising, a bulk price edit gone wrong — every one of those leaves Shopify’s status page green and your store not selling.
Does monitoring require installing anything on my store?
No theme edits and no code changes. Cassian™ reads your storefront the way any visitor does, and reads catalog and order data through your platform’s official API with read-only access. On Shopify that is an app install granting read scopes; on WooCommerce it is an application password; on BigCommerce and Wix it is OAuth.
How quickly will I know when something breaks?
It depends on the failure. An outage is caught within 5 minutes on Protector and above, or within a minute on Prime — with a 30-second confirmation retry before anything is sent, so a single dropped packet does not page you. A stop in orders is caught on the next analysis pass: every 3 hours on the free plan, hourly on Guardian and above. A price error is caught on the next catalog snapshot, which runs daily.
What does monitoring cost?
Cassian™ has a free plan that covers zero-order alerts, daily page speed, weekly scans and link checks. Paid plans start at $49/month; uptime and certificate monitoring begin at $129/month on Protector, which is also where Telegram, Slack and Discord alerts start.
